Tool Information

Synthesia is an AI business video platform for training, onboarding, sales, support, and internal communication. Users can turn a script into a presenter-led video with stock or custom avatars, voices, templates, brand assets, screen recordings, dubbing, and collaboration. Creator and enterprise tiers add features such as multiple avatars per scene, interactive video, API access, and wider governance controls.

Basic is free with 1,200 monthly credits, equal to about ten generated video minutes. Starter costs $29 monthly or $264 annually. Creator costs $89 monthly or $804 annually and includes 3,600 monthly credits. Synthesia is strongest for repeatable company content rather than cinematic storytelling. Custom avatars require live consent from the same person, translations need review, and every new or edited generated second consumes credits. Teams should also plan avatar ownership and deletion before staff roles change.

Synthesia review

Synthesia is built for video that has a job: explain a process, train a team, onboard a customer, translate an announcement, or keep a policy presentation consistent. It replaces repeated studio recording more convincingly than it replaces a creative film crew.

The useful comparison is not an AI demo against a human presenter at their best. It is Synthesia against the cost of recording and updating the same operational video across departments and languages.

Business structure is the product’s strength

A script can become a scene-based video with an AI presenter, voice, screen content, captions, templates, and brand assets. Teams can comment, reuse layouts, and update a changed paragraph without reshooting the full piece.

That makes Synthesia a good fit for software walkthroughs, safety reminders, onboarding, and recurring internal updates. Keep scenes short and give each one a clear visual purpose. A presenter standing beside dense bullet points is still a slide deck with a face.

Creator and enterprise plans add wider collaboration and production features. Test the exact avatar, language, and export workflow because plan tables count access, not whether a particular voice fits your audience.

Avatars have different jobs

Synthesia offers stock avatars, synthetic stock avatars with customizable elements, personal avatars from a photo, legacy video-based avatars, and studio avatars. Its current avatar comparison explains which types support gestures, transparent backgrounds, and the API.

A stock avatar is sensible for generic instruction. A personal avatar is useful when a leader or teacher must appear consistently. A studio avatar suits controlled company communication and API workflows, but it carries additional cost.

Choose one presenter for a series and build a small style guide covering clothing, framing, voice, caption treatment, and scene pace. Consistency matters more than cycling through dozens of faces.

Synthesia requires a live consent video from the same person when creating a personal avatar from a photo. Its creation guide says avatars of public figures or anyone without explicit consent are not allowed.

Document where the avatar may appear, who can generate new videos, and what happens when the person leaves the company. Previously generated videos may continue to exist after an avatar is removed, so takedown planning must include published copies.

Synthesia says avatar, voice, and video data is permanently removed within 90 days of a deletion request. A company should know who can submit that request and who receives confirmation.

Credits translate directly into generated seconds

The official pricing page lists Basic at $0 with 1,200 monthly credits. Starter costs $29 monthly or $264 annually. Creator costs $89 monthly or $804 annually. Enterprise is custom.

Each generated second costs two credits. That makes 1,200 credits about ten minutes and 3,600 credits about 30 minutes. Monthly unused credits do not roll over. Annual plans provide an annual pool.

A draft does not consume generated video credits until rendering, but later edits can consume credits for newly generated seconds. Finalize script, pronunciation, layout, and timing before rendering a long version.

A useful Synthesia test

  1. Choose a real two-minute training topic that will change later.
  2. Build a short script with one concept per scene.
  3. Test two avatars and voices before rendering the whole video.
  4. Have a subject expert and a viewer review accuracy and clarity.
  5. Change one policy sentence and measure the update effort.

The last step reveals why a business might keep Synthesia after the novelty wears off.

My verdict

Synthesia is a strong operational video tool for companies that publish repeatable, updateable content. Its templates, avatars, language support, and collaboration matter more in a training library than in a one-off social clip.

Basic is enough to test the workflow. Starter works for modest recurring output, while Creator makes sense when 30 minutes, dubbing, API access, or interactive features have a defined role. Keep consent, avatar ownership, translation review, and credit planning in the production checklist.

F.A.Q (5)

Yes. Basic costs $0 and includes 1,200 monthly credits, equivalent to about ten minutes of generated video, plus a limited stock avatar selection.

Starter costs $29 per month or $264 per year. The annual price is equivalent to $22 per month and includes 14,500 annual credits rather than a monthly reset.

Each generated second uses two credits. Basic and monthly Starter receive 1,200 credits per month, while Creator receives 3,600. Unused monthly credits do not roll into the next cycle.

Only with that person’s explicit participation and consent. Synthesia requires a live consent video from the same person for a photo-based personal avatar and prohibits public figures or people who have not consented.

Synthesia says it permanently removes avatar, video, and voice data within 90 days of a valid deletion request and provides confirmation when deletion is complete.
