Grok is xAI’s general AI assistant with unusually direct access to current web and X information. It handles questions, research, writing, coding, voice, documents, images, and video. Newer tools include Skills for creating documents, slides, spreadsheets, and PDFs; Automations for scheduled or email-triggered work; Grok Build for terminal coding; and Goal for longer autonomous tasks.
A free plan provides limited chat, real-time search, voice, and connected features. SuperGrok costs $30 per month and expands limits and access to stronger models and creative tools. Grok is a good fit for fast-moving topics and people who already use X, but social posts are leads rather than evidence. Confirm claims with primary sources, review generated media, and use narrow permissions for automations or connected accounts.
Musthave review
Grok is most interesting when the story is moving faster than a normal search index. It can scan the web and X, surface the accounts driving a conversation, and help separate the original announcement from thousands of reactions. That makes it useful for news discovery. It also makes it easy to confuse attention with evidence.
I would use Grok to find the claim, not to certify it. An X post can be early, insightful, sarcastic, edited, or completely fabricated. The fastest research tool needs the strongest source discipline.
Grok’s free plan includes real-time web and X search. For a developing story, ask it to identify the earliest credible source, separate company statements from commentary, and build a timeline with direct links. Then leave X and open the filing, release, paper, repository, or regulator page.
A useful prompt is: “What is confirmed, what is claimed by an interested party, and what remains inference?” That structure works better than asking whether a rumor is true. It also gives you a visible list of facts that still need verification.
For routine questions, Grok behaves like a general assistant. Its distinctive value appears when current public conversation is part of the evidence, not when you need a timeless definition.
xAI describes Grok 4.5 as its current model for coding, reasoning, and agentic work. Grok Skills can create documents, slide decks, spreadsheets, and PDFs. Grok Imagine generates images and video, including image-to-video with audio. Grok Build brings coding into the terminal.
That breadth is convenient but should not erase tool choice. Use a research workflow when sources matter, a terminal workflow when the repository matters, and the media tools when the visual result matters. One prompt box does not make those jobs identical.
Generated video is good for concepts and social experiments. It is not automatically cleared advertising. Check likeness consent, trademarks, copyrighted references, and whether the platform where you publish requires an AI label.
Grok Automations can run on a schedule or respond to email triggers. Goal is built for longer tasks that can work more independently. Both are potentially useful for monitoring, summaries, preparation, and recurring reports.
Begin with a job that cannot spend money, send a public message, or overwrite a system of record. Log the inputs and output. Add an approval step before anything consequential. An automation that saves ten minutes is not worth an invisible wrong action.
The official xAI pricing page lists Free at $0 and SuperGrok at $30 per month. SuperGrok adds higher limits, stronger model access, and expanded creative and work features. Other Grok tiers and X subscriptions can overlap, so compare the exact limits attached to the account you plan to use.
The free plan is enough to test the reason Grok exists: current search. Pay only when limits interrupt a repeatable research, coding, or media workflow. If your main need is careful work over private documents rather than live public information, compare Claude or ChatGPT before subscribing.
This preserves Grok’s speed without inheriting the platform’s noise.
Grok is a strong research companion for people whose work begins with what is happening now, especially on X. Its wider mix of coding, documents, automations, images, and video makes SuperGrok more credible as a full subscription.
Its greatest strength creates its greatest risk. Real-time access reaches the truth early and reaches misinformation at the same speed. Use Grok to discover, map, and challenge a story; use primary documents to decide what you publish.
